The 2007 Oregon Ironman Fitness and Figure Championships was an exciting event to cover. Right off the bat, the audience was electrified by a little dance troupe from Groove Nation Dance Club of Vancouver called the Boom Box Dancers. They did a pumped up performance and got the crowd going. Kim Kong Farrison once again emceed the show in another one of his trademark Electric outfits. The man's the consumate dresser and knows how to keep the crowd sticking around to watch the show to the very end. Kim also gave a great introduction to the show's promoters, Ron and Sue Smith and Ron credited Sue for the fantastic looking Tropical-themed set and how she designed everything and did it herself. The set looked great, the tables looked great, everyone loved it.. If that wasn't enough, IFBB Fitness Pro Tami Ough (Oregon's own) came out and did an eye popping physically exhausting routine that everyone cheered her on for. No wonder she's a pro. She was awesome. And before she left, Kim Farrison invited Tami's up on stage for mother's day and it was nice to see she had such a nice normal family with cute kids. Starting the contest was Women's fitness and the sole competitor was Mia Marie, who did a great physically demanding routine. Next was the Figure 5'2 and under handily won by Veronica Elverud. Figure 5'3, a larger class was taken by Renee Lirette. Figure 5'4 and under was taken by Cydney Sheley, Figure under 5'5 by a very tattooed Tiffany Burnett. In a very competitive and hard to judge division, the Figure under 5'6 was won by Jodi Beard, who will surely be making a name for herself this year. The largest class was the Figure 5'8 and under and this took a long time to judge, but eventually the winner was announced and that was Mendi Sakamoto. More on her in a bit. The Figure 5'8 and over was Sharyn Sullivan. In the Masters divisions, the Figure Masters Short winner was Kellie Wisher, while the Figure Tall trophy went to Karen Baker. All the the division winners were lovely, but only one athlete could take the Overall and that was Mendi Sakamota. She was defined, symmetrical, lovely, and blew every other competitor away. She won her division and overall even before the judges scored her. Fantastic job, Mendi!! And teriffic job to the rest of the athletes. Especially teriffic job to RK Smith Productions for yet another fun and lively show to attend. We can't wait for next year's show. Until then!!! |
